The King and The Father features 12 songs that Jimmy
Martin and Bill Monroe recorded together during Martin’s
years as a bluegrass boy. Between 1949 and 1954 Jimmy
Martin worked with Bill Monroe, recording 46 sides for
Decca Records. During his tenure with Monroe, Martin
helped change the sound of bluegrass music. His aggressive
rhythm guitar added a fierce drive to his mentor's music
and Martin's strong, high vocal range pushed Monroe's
tenor up into the sky, creating what has become known as
the 'high lonesome' sound. This new CD includes the most
classic of the recordings they made together.
