So, here’s the most recent scoop with King of Bluegrass.

We have been super busy working on the DVD and getting prepared for the slew of screenings we have coming up (check out the updated list of screenings).

SCREENINGS

First we just got word that the film will be screening at the New Orleans Film Festival on Saturday, October 11th at 1 PM. If you live in Louisiana, stay tuned for more details on the exact location.

The next few weeks are super busy for us. The film is showing at Bear’s Place in my hometown of Bloomington this week and then Associate Producer Will Wall and I are heading down to the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival in Birmingham, Alabama for a screening there on September 21st. Looks like a great time! More info at www.sidewalkfest.com .

Then on Monday, September 29th, the film’s editor, Kathleen Dargis is heading to her hometown of Minneapolis where the film will be showing at the Sound Unseen Film Festival. More info at www.soundunseen.com .

During that same week (Sept. 29-Oct. 5th) I’ll be heading down to Louisville for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s “World of Bluegrass Conference.” IBMA is co-hosting host two limited seating screenings. I will be selling copies of the DVD and VHS all week. So, if you’ve been wanting to get your hands on a copy of the film and will be at the conference, come check us out at Booth 27B! Looks like we’ll have t-shirts too! More info about the event at www.ibma.org .

We have also recently been asked to show the film at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago as part of their upcoming Music Movie Series. The screenings will be Sunday, October 26 at 7:30 PM and Thursday, October 30th at 8:30 PM.

VHS & DVD RELEASE

The VHS release is coming up right around the corner. Check this website in late September, early October to find out about our website only pre-release of the film. The film will be in stores in October/November.

We are also pushing forward on the DVD. It has been a ton or work, but looks to be well worth it. In addition to the film, the DVD will include the following extras:

  • Bonus Scenes
  • Director's Interview
  • Bios on all the people interviewed in the film
  • A piece on Jimmy's already built gravestone
  • A discography of Jimmy's Decca LPs
  • A timeline of Jimmy's Life
  • A Roots of Bluegrass section that traces the events and people that helped create the bluegrass sound.

Stay tuned for details on the release of the DVD.

Thanks,
George Goehl
